Palace/Hall of Fame Format
Palace (Also known as Hall of Fame) Format is a format of the Pokémon Trading Card Game exclusive to Japan. It allows players to use cards from every expansion since Diamond & Pearl and uses a star-based system to restrict the cards that can be played in a deck. Certain cards have been assigned a star-value ranging from 1 to 3 (with 5 additional cards being strictly banned), and each player is allowed to include up to 4 stars in their deck.
The format has seen play in the West, and some players have adopted an updated star/ban list for play in casual Palace events. Both star/ban lists will be listed on this webpage.
Rules
The format uses stars (also known as Hall of Fame Points) that are set in advance for powerful cards according to their strength. Palace decks must include 60 cards and can only have up to 4 stars in any combination. If a card has a star value, that is the value for playing 1 copy of the card.
If a card is on on the star/ban list, all printings of that card keep that designation.
For example, Shaymin-EX (Roaring Skies 77) is worth 1 star. This means Shaymin-EX (Roaring Skies 106) and Shaymin-EX (Roaring Skies 77a) are also worth 1 star.
Cards from the following blocks are permitted, including their respective promotional sets:
Diamond & Pearl
Platinum
HeartGold & SoulSilver
Black & White
XY
Sun & Moon
Sword & Shield
Cards on the ban list cannot be used.
Cards that include the text "This card cannot be used at official tournaments" cannot be used.
A card with the same name and same text may be used so long as there is a legal version of the card in the above listed blocks.
A combination of Professor Juniper, Professor Sycamore, or Professor's Research cannot be played in the same deck. Up to 4 copies of one of the cards may be played in a deck.
Lysandre and Boss's Orders cannot be played in the same deck.
Boss's Orders (Giovanni) and Boss's Orders (Lysandre) are treated as cards with the same name.
For games played using the Unofficial Community Star/Ban List, the Japanese promotional cards Miracle Diamond, Mysterious Pearl, and Wonder Platinum may be used. They do not have a star value.
